COVID-19 and your photo session

The safety of your family during my photo sessions has always been at the top of my professional priorities.

Even more so right now, at a time of unparalleled emergency, we must continue looking after each other.

COVID-19 lockdown and How it Affects Family Photography

In March, the Government introduced a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus. The regulations of the lockdown clearly stated that we should avoid all non-essential travel and contact with people outside of our household.

These new rules meant that it was no longer possible for me to safely (and lawfully) carry out a photo session in people’s homes, in my studio or on-location. For this reason, I stopped shooting sessions in mid-March and moved all existing bookings to dates later in the year.

As the lockdown begins to be gradually lifted and more non-essential activities permitted, some types of photo sessions may now be scheduled from 1st of June 2020 onwards.

“open space” family sessions on location

The current phase of the Government’s reopening strategy after lockdown allows for non-essential businesses to open, and a greater extent of social interaction to happen outside.

For this reason, I am delighted to be able to reopen my diary for outdoor photo sessions from June 1st onwards.

I will carry out all outdoor sessions in accordance to current rules and advice, including:

  • Keeping a 2-metre (or greater) safe distance from you at all times (yay for telephoto lenses!);
  • Wearing a face covering (just me, of course!).

I know plenty of great outdoor locations, from woodland to fields and beaches – including a number of them that are quiet, unspoiled and largely secluded – therefore ideal to keep our distances away from others! To check availability for your preferred date, please use the form below to contact me.

At the moment, the guidance with respect to in-home services is that these are allowed, so long as we keep a 2-metre distance and wash/sanitise our hands frequently.

While in principle this is something that we could work with, I feel it would be wiser to postpone newborn sessions until the Autumn because:

  • The intimate nature of newborn photography isn’t always compatible with “keeping a safe distance”.
  • Home spaces may not always make it possible to shoot from 2 metres away.
  • Virus transmission is higher in enclosed spaces.

I miss photographing my sweet newborns immensely, but their safety cannot be compromised, even for the sake of a beautiful picture. I will be happy to pencil in sessions for babies due from September onwards, subject to government and medical guidance.

I will update this page as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please message or call me on 07941 355027 if you’d like to pencil in a date for a photo session from June throughout to Autumn, or if you have any questions on “open space” family shoots with safe distancing.
