Have I mentioned lately how much I love an older newborn photoshoot? They may be some of my absolute favourite types of baby session!
I recently welcomed this lovely brand new family in my North Hampshire home studio to capture some natural images and video of their 8-week-old baby girl in her first few weeks of life. 8-week older newborn photoshoot in North Hampshire
At eight weeks old, Avni was a few weeks older than the “usual” age for a newborn photoshoot. I actually love this – it’s so great working with older newborn babies as, at one or two months old, they are already starting to smile and interact much more with their world. We can always capture such a great variety and an older newborn photo session.
After an initial milk top-up (always the first step at my newborn photo shoots), Avni was very alert and happy, smiling big, cooing and making lots of eye contact with Mum and Dad. Right off the bat, we captured some brilliant interaction shots with Mum and Dad, as well as some precious family images.

A newborn photoshoot is around 3 hours long, and during this time we alternate naps, feeds and nappy changes with photo opportunities just at the right time. This is exactly the pattern we took at Avni’s shoot. She took everything in her stride beautifully, enjoying all the cuddles and attention with a few top-up nursings with Mum in between – and gifting us with an incredible variety of adorable expressions.
Natural Portrait Photography for Older Newborn Babies
Mum had hoped that we would still be able to create some of the more traditional, sleepy newborn portraits alongside the more interactive shots. With older newborns, this is not always guaranteed, as so much depends on baby’s temperament, routine and frankly, what kind of day they’re having!
However, Avni was really relaxed and happy and eventually did succumb to the sweet slumber on the big studio bed. It was then that we were able to capture the peaceful shots that Mum had wanted.
Newborn Photography and Videography in Hampshire
I absolutely loved capturing video alongside stills at this shoot. It really brought the images to life and was such a wonderful keepsake for the family to keep as yet another visual reminder of those early days.
