It is no secret that baby A’s newborn portraits from early last year were some of my favourite ever newborn images. Only a few months later, I was thrilled to hear back from his mum, inviting me back to their home in Basingstoke to photograph her gorgeous little boy again. At a seven months old, my little friend had a shock of irresistible dark curls and smile that made my heart melt. Literally, in a puddle. Right by my camera bag 😉
As is often the case when taking professional portraits of young babies, time is of the essence – a baby’s interest is harder to keep the closest it gets to nap or snack time! At home, baby A was happy and relaxed right through to the end of the photo session, as he played with mama and dada on their big bed and in the garden. I worked quickly and efficiently around A’s schedule, keeping equipment to a minimum and making the most of the stunning natural light of the day. The outdoors family images are my top picks from the session. Simple moments of happiness in the sunshine, as it filtered through the lush greens, reds and yellows of the garden. Baby A sitting on daddy’s hand was just the best party trick ever! But the indoors selection was no slouch – the classic portrait of A and Mummy by the window is a close favourite, too – a simple set-up with minimal posing and a timeless quality.
