Simple & elegant newborn portraits of your baby’s first days

Here’s to New Beginnings…

Here’s to the beautiful chaos of those first days with your newborn – when time is a blur and your whole existence is equal parts love and tiredness all. the. time.

“Remember every moment”, they’ll tell you. But time goes so fast, and memories easily slip away (especially when you’re running on four hours of sleep a night!).

A newborn photoshoot crystallises these precious moments in time into a tangible keepsake with lasting power.

Creating Memories That Last

Years from now, imagine leafing through a beautiful photo album of your baby’s earliest days, every page brimming with emotion, connection and carefully observed detail. That’s the legacy we can create together.

I’m a newborn photographer with over 18 years’ experience working in my Basingstoke studio and in homes across Hampshire, Berkshire and London.

Unobtrusive and easy-paced, my baby-led newborn photoshoots can be booked at any point before your baby arrives, or even weeks after their birth.

My Newborn Photography Philosophy

Keep it Simple, Sweetheart

My motto for photographing babies is quite straightforward: we keep it simple, easy and comfortable for everyone. It’s the “zero-stress” way.

My newborn photography shoots flow organically and are centred around your baby’s routine. We can shoot in your home or in my studio – whichever makes this experience easiest for your family.

Either way, it all starts with making sure your baby is happy: a full tummy, a dry nappy, a warm room and cosy clothing (or a lovely soft wrap!).

Asleep or awake?

Your baby might be taking a nap, or taking in the sights and sounds – it’s all good, and we don’t need to force either scenario.

Wide awake newborn shots bring lots of personality and connection, and are often parents favourites.

And once baby falls asleep , we’ll go in for those adorable sleepy shots.

Natural Lighting and Staging

Natural light is my go-to for newborn photography. The results are intimate and soulful, and it is more discreet than using flash. This means that the natural flow of our session is undisrupted.

Staging and props are minimal: whether at home or in the studio, I will provide a collection of neutral coloured blankets, wraps and wardrobe pieces for baby and Mum.

I don’t do strict posing, because your baby already has all the best moves!  Once we’ve settled them, I’ll observe and capture them as they get cosy in their space.

Newborn With Family Photoshoots

A Photoshoot for the Whole Family

A newborn photo session is not just about your baby. Your family is part of that story, and that’s why the family connection takes such a centre stage at every shoot.

Whether it is just the three of you, or there are already other children in the family, it’s important that everyone is in the picture and part of the moment.

Looking back on these precious images some day, everyone in your little unit will be happy to have been captured and represented at such a monumental time in the history of your family.

Lots of Variety

For this reason, we will spend all the time it takes to capture lots of beautiful portrait combinations like mum and baby, dad and baby, each of the parents with all the children.

And of course, the ever-popular baby and sibling(s) shot (which can be tricky to capture at times, but I have many tricks up my sleeve!)

The result? A rich and varied newborn gallery, featuring a big selection of family images, and more than a few big moments to make your heart melt.

Cristina is absolutely incredible!

She captured my little one’s personality perfectly even at 6 days old. She was like a baby whisperer and completely won over my baby son during his newborn shoot.

She also made me as a new mum, low on sleep and aching everywhere, very comfortable and happy.

What’s the cost of a newborn photoshoot?

The Full Story session fees start at £250 for a weekday photoshoot. This fee includes:

  • a pre-session appointment in the studio or on the phone;
  • a 3-4 hour newborn photo session in my studio or in your home;
  • full artistic editing of your proofs;
  • a Reveal appointment in the studio or via Google Meet to review your gallery and choose your favourites.

The images are not included in the session fee and are purchased separately after your session.

You can expect to invest between £1,000 and £5,000 on your newborn portraits, presented as digital packages, fine art albums and framed prints.

A shorter, more budget-conscious session is also available. Read more about The Short Story.

When Is the Best Time To Book Your Newborn Photoshoot?

After your 20-Week Scan

The ideal time to get in touch is right after your 20-week scan.

If you are looking for those super cute sleepy, curled up shots, the perfect window for a newborn photography session is at 7-10 days old, when babies are still sleeping a lot. Getting in touch early means we can secure a date based on your due date.

After Baby Has Arrived

If your baby has already arrived, please get in touch anyway! My diary is reasonably flexible and I am occasionally able to fit in newborn sessions at short notice.

Can You Photograph Older Newborns?

If your baby is a few weeks old already, please don’t feel that you have missed out. Older newborn portraits are every bit as magical and rewarding as very early ones!

Sessions with newborn babies between 4 weeks and 8 weeks of age are really great. While there may be fewer opportunities for sleepy shots, there will be more of other, just as exciting milestones to capture, like:

  • More awake shots and plenty of eye contact;
  • Interaction with Mum and Dad;
  • Lots of personality and a big range of expressions;
  • Early smiles!

Cristina came to our house, which made it so much easier with a newborn and a toddler – everything was so relaxed (and she was so patient!).

She’s captured some wonderful images which we will treasure forever – we’re so happy with them!
